The Importance of Keeping a Cannabis Grow Site Clean
A clean grow room is a healthy happy grow room. There is no doubt that cultivation sites with lax cleaning protocols spend much more time and money managing mildew and bugs. That dust pile in the corner of the room under the plant table is an irresistible residence and food source for all kinds of bugs and microbes that easily multiply and find their way onto your plants.
Complete sterility is not really possible to attain, but the closer you get to it, the less time and money you’ll spend on pest management. Floors should be mopped every day and corners should be vacuumed weekly, if not more frequently. Employees can wear special shoes while on site that don’t leave the premises, or they can stand in a shallow bleach solution when they enter the site to clean off the bottoms of their shoes.
One of my consulting clients hires a janitorial company to come in after hours every day and run floor-cleaning machines throughout the location. They keep the site beautifully clean all the time, and besides minimizing pest problems, the obvious state of above-average cleanliness they maintain lends itself to worker pride and a great first impression that visitors have when they come in for weekly tours.
Cleanliness, like a strict pest prevention plan, is a priority that's often overlooked by growers and investors getting into the legal cannabis industry. In the long run, however, investing in these things can make the difference between success and failure.
